Summer Trees – Stage 2

Using a dark blue pastel, I blocked in the main dark elements of the picture with broad sideways strokes. These were then smudged in with the side of my palm in order that they would integrate smoothly with later applications of pastel. Note that the smudging of the reflections was made with a downward movement. Reflections are like curtains hanging down from the water’s edge.
