Summer Trees – Equipment and Preparation

Before starting, a few words about materials and equipment.

Probably the most common question that I am asked is ‘what colours are you using’. I can understand people wanting advice on colours, and colour mixing, but I am very reluctant to answer this question as it smacks of a formulaic approach to ones work.  Much better for the painter to be inspired by the scene before them and to put their own interpretation on colour. For landscape painting this is particularly so as colours change throughout the day depending on light, weather and the time of year. A summer scene that has green hues in the morning can appear quite pink towards sunset.
