Lesson 17 of 19
In Progress

Materials

In this tutorial I illustrate how to do some preparatory sgraffito whilst out during a walk in the countryside. This could even be on your dog walk! Taking minimal equipment and spending just a few minutes of observational drawing makes it an easy and fun way of finding new inspiration with the excitement of having something to work on with pastel back at home.

I took these sgraffito tools with me in my pockets, 6 coloured pencils, a pencil sharpener, a mini hand whisk, a metal paper clip, a couple of boards each taped with a piece of Clairefontaine Pastelmat paper and a couple of clips to keep the boards together whilst I work.
