Now that the underpainting is finished I collect some more colours (fig. 11 mostly in lighter values than the underpainting, except where I feel the underpainting needs a boost – ie. in the darker trees here.) and start with the darks in the trees, limning out some detail particularly in the closer trees. The further back trees become negative space for the close ones, and remain less detailed so as to increase depth. (fig. 12)
