Mixed Media Underpainting Techniques with Final Abstract Painting

Materials

• Large piece of paper which will take water (I used BFK Rives printing paper)
• Large board

Any will do but I used:

• Acrylic gouache –Liquitex Vivid Lime Green and Medium Magenta
• Acrylic fluids – I used Golden Green Gold and Quinacridone Magenta
• Acrylic inks – FW Fluorescent Pink and Liquitex Vivid Lime Green

For underpainting

• Pastel pencils
• Watercolour pencils or sticks
• Charcoal
• Pens
• Old credit cards
• Wrong end of paint brushes
• Cling film
• Bubble wrap
• Anything you think you might make a mark with
• Clear gesso

For final pastel layers

• I used Unison pastels within the R (red) and GN (green range as well as BGE10 and ADD17
• And a few other odd pastels
