I identified the realistic Local Colors that were visible in the scene. I kept in mind that there was soft, late afternoon light, verging on twilight, coming in from the right side of the scene. As a result, the colors receiving sunlight would not only be lighter, but would also be warmer. The colors in the shadows would be darker and cooler.

For the background, I selected greyed out cool neutral hues. By incorporating grey/blue and grey/violet into the background, it would create a color complement relationship with the warm orange and yellow hues in the Screech Owl and would result in the warm colors appearing more vibrant. (Unison BV15, BV2, A4 and BV14)
