Introduction – The Sky Takes Centre Stage

Do your clouds look heavy, like rocks, in the sky? Or like pasted on pieces of cut out paper? Does your sky look like a flat wall of colour? Want to learn how to make more convincing skies and clouds in your paintings?

In this tutorial I will show step-by-step how I completed this cloud painting of a sunny day with a blue sky and cumulus clouds. My WHY was to convey the beautiful clouds moving through the deep blue Western sky. I wanted to make the clouds appear luminous and airy and show the movement of the clouds. I kept the foreground simple to avoid distracting from the clouds.
