Mark Making
Working in your sketchbook or on basic cartridge paper the first exercise is to practice and have fun finding the wide sweeping pastel stroke which will be your most useful and versatile mark. With practice this mark will soon become an easy way to draw and paint with one movement without needing to draw any outlines which can flatten a 3 dimensional object. The illustration below shows a few examples and variations of this mark but you will also find your own too.
